Calling All Artists: Reflections Deadline 10/30
Reflections is a program of the National PTA that begins at the local level. Students K-12 can submit works of art for fun and recognition. This year’s theme is “Heroes Around Me” and entry categories are: literature, musical composition, photography, the visual arts, dance choreography and film production.
Entry forms and rules are available now. Completed entries are due in the Kerr office by October 30, 2018 and should be labeled “Reflections – Glenna Slavens”. At least one member of the student artist’s family must be a member of the Kerr Elementary PTA to advance their artwork to the district level and above (if selected). More details are on the Texas PTA Reflections website or contact Kerr PTA Arts in Education Chair Glenna Slavens.
Volunteers Needed for Classroom Program
Kerr PTA is proud to sponsor ArtSparks - an art appreciation/visual literacy program by the Allen Arts Alliance. Parent volunteers show students images of art and lead them in discussion. Training is provided and at-home preparation for each session is typically 30 minutes or less. At this time, several of Kerr’s K-3 classrooms are still in need of ArtSparks volunteers.
Please consider filling this role in your child’s class or another class by clicking here (you do not have to have a child in the class to volunteer). All volunteers must be registered as an AISD volunteer. Contact Kerr PTA Arts in Education Chair Glenna Slavens for more information.
Health Hustle 2018: The Tradition Continues
Don't miss Allen's largest health and wellness expo on October 24 from 4:30-8:30pm at the Allen Event Center. Health Hustle was founded by local, elementary PE coaches and is presented by Allen
ISD Council of PTAs and the Allen ISD. It's a free, family event with displays and demos, Kids Zones inside and outside, music, and swag bags for the first 5,000 attendees.
You can't play host to 5,000 people without volunteers; so, please sign up to help if you can be available one or more hours for a variety of jobs.
